    2. Forgot to mention, Mom graduated from Santa Isabel College with a degree in Home Economics not UPV and never lived or went to school in the Visayas. She loves the people and her fans there though and has fond memories of performing there. One of her best friends — my Tita Yolly De La Torre - who is now deceased was visayan though and from IloIlo.

    3. Hi TJ - Thanks for the comment, but you’re thinking of another Merci Molina. My mother (the singer and actress in this post) was born and raised in Metro Manila - Quezon City (Kamuning and Scout Gandia areas to be more precise). You got the DOB timeframe about right minus a couple years but she is VERY MUCH alive and has been living in the Chicago area since the mid 1980s and prior to that Southern California and Washington State. After divorcing her second husband (Eugene Relf) and then her third husband (my dad), and getting an annulment from her first (the only one who was Filipino when she married at a young age — Lito García), she went in to marry my step dad whom she remained with for 30+ years until his passing. Mom enjoys travel, fashion, being with family and friends, hosting parties, and has split her time between Chicago and her home in Vegas for the past several years (the last few years she’s had big birthday celebrations in her honor) and still occasionally performed for friends and audiences when requested. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I would sometimes attend her huge concerts in the US, Asia, Australia and accompanied her when she made guest appearances in shows like Vilma, the Sharon Cuneta Show, and more when we would visit the Philippines.

I’m so pleased you enjoy her music and that it’s made a positive impact on your life. Do take care.
