Robert Jose Dela Cruz Nievera, better known as Bert Nievera, is Filipino singer. He is the father of the Philippines' "concert king" Martin Nievera.
Nievera was born on October 17, 1936. His first job as a singer was in 1958. While honing his singing talent, he became a daily performer at Airmen’s Club of Camp John Hay in Baguio. In 1959, he joined Student Canteen’s “Search for Johnny Mathis of the Philippines,” and won the title. He became more popular in the 1960s, making rounds as featured performer in various clubs in the Philippines. Grabbing the opportunity, he left the country in 1966 to United States and joined the group “Society of Seven” where he became its lead singer. The group performed in Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Hawaii in the US until 1976.
He decided to return to the Philippines in 1989, the time when his son's career was blossoming. Since then he has resided in the country and has been doing big major concerts in the country and abroad, lounge acts, small concerts, and TV shows and guestings. He has recorded three albums: “Nievera” released in Hollywood by Silver Sword Production in 1976; “Sumasainyo, Bert Nievera,” an all-tagalog album released by Vicor Records under the Blackgold label in 1978; and “Nievera Remembers” released by Wea Records in 1985. In 1990 he performed in the highly successful “Timeless” concert with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra at the CCP Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo.
