An icon in the Filipino music industry, Pabs Dadivas stood as one of the pillars in the history of Pinoy rock. A very talented and versatile performer who could powerfully but yet in a cool voice sing any gender of music from rock to ballads to jazz to rhythm and blues.
Regarded as an international acclaimed artist, Pabs collaborated with famed musicians including Harvey Mason a session drummer for George Benson, and recently with Jim Savitt who opened for Boney James a Grammy nominee. One of the lead singers of the mega group “ Circus Band” together with Basil Valdez, Hadji Alejandro, Jackie Magno, Tillie Moreno Boy Katindig., Pabs was the composer and singer.who brought you the hits “Mahal” & Kung Sakali...
In a rare performance, Synergy Network Productions in cooperation with AC Tristar- SaladMaster is proud to present Pabs Dadivas in Dekada’80 who will be performing live in Toronto on September 30, 2006 at 7:30 pm in Agincourt College main auditorium located at 2621 Midland, Scarborough back up by our very own Toronto’s diva Josie de Leon who has done recordings and live performances with the famous national singer/composer Jose Marie Chan. Part of the proceeds will benefit Gawad Kalinga, a Philippines national fund raising program whose goal is to rebuild and improve poverty stricken areas in the Philippines. Special guests performers will also feature three of Toronto’s Filipino-Canadian young generation’s “hot rapper” Edward Santos, Natasha Barcena, and Jessica Aquino, a promising young pop singers and Alan Palentino, keyboard back-up player for Canadian Idol finalist Mickey Bustos.
Dekada’80 brings back the hit songs of the 80’s where a large population of Filipino immigrants to Canada emerged from that era and will once again reminisce moments of their twilight years.
Dekada’80 will also pave the way for the upcoming musical stage play entitled “Lapu-Lapu” originally written and composed by Pabs Dadivas. Lau Lapu the musical was written by Pabs Dadivas 28 years ago. It is a musical of epic proportions, comprising of 24 original songs, written and arranged by interweaving both western and eastern styles.
Based on the story of the hero of Mactan, who with such courage and valor drove away the Spanish conquistadores and killed their leader Magellan, from his island paradise.
It depicts the moral, social and economic situation of the Filipino of a by gone era.
Lapu Lapu is a Filipino original.
The search is on for who will be in the main cast and prospects includes top veteran musicians including Boy Katindig, Tilie Moreno, Ray An Fuentes, Joey albert, Chiqui Pineda who are all based in North America, plus many more.
“Lapu-Lapu”, if ever will be the first of its kind of an all Filipino cast including a classical and exotic musical stage play ever to be shown in North America to attract a world class audience.
